The West African Examination Council (WAEC) is expected to release the 2025 BECE results of all private candidates who sat the examination in June.
WAEC conducted the 2025 exam for three categories of candidates but released the results for only one.
On 23rd August, the results of all school candidates were released, leaving that of private candidates pending. This was captured in the heading of the press release by WAEC, which read “RELEASE OF PROVISIONAL RESULTS FOR THE BASIC EDUCATION CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (BECE) FOR SCHOOL CANDIDATES, 2025.”
The candidates’ statistics in the above press release also captured only school candidates.
According to information from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the Ghana Education Service (GES), a total of 1,661 private candidates sat for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). This figure is broken down into 858 males and 803 females. This data was not captured in the released results on 23rd August, 2025.
The above press release confirms that WAEC is yet to release the results of the private candidates as of today.
The private candidates are made up of candidates who were assessed using the new common core curriculum and the old curriculum.
A reliable source has disclosed to BECEPrep.com that WAEC will release all the results of these classes of candidates by 6th September, 2025. The release of the 2025 BECE Private Candidates Results is crucial since the Ministry of Education (MoE) will need them to determine the schools such candidates will be placed in from 17th September, 2025.
Following the release of the results, all private BECE candidates had difficulties assessing their results.
In some cases, the candidates received invalid feedback from the Computerised School Selection and Placement portal each time they tried to check their school choice data on the portal.
When the results are released, such candidates will be able to access their results on the BECE result portal.
However, prior to WAEC inviting over 1400 school candidates for mass cheating investigations, it invited some private BECE candidates to assist with investigations. Such candidates will know their fate when WAEC releases the results.
The council has also indicated that it would release all results withheld due to ongoing investigations of school candidates from the same date.
Parents, candidates, and others affected would have to check their results to know the final verdict of WAEC.
All such results cancelled or released will only be accessible on the portal.
In a related development, WAEC will not organize any BECE examination effective 2026 for students under the old curriculum. It has disclosed that the last of such examinations was held in 2025.
In 2026, all candidates will sit the BECE based on the common core curriculum. The 2026 BECE will also be the last time WAEC will use the English Literature Cockcrow as the book for assessing candidates.

When the 2025 BECE Private Candidates Results are out, such students will have their data captured on the CSSPS portal just as those with withheld results that are finally released.
