The 2025 GTLE is to be conducted under the new and revised format which aims at enhancing efficiency, credibility, and better alignment of the examination with modern teacher education standards, the statement added.

To keep all potential candidates up to date, the NTC is expected to organise Zoom engagement sessions through TTAG’s administrative sectors to provide orientation and answer questions on the new arrangements.

“All affected candidates are advised to take note of these directives, prepare adequately, and follow official updates keenly,” the statement read.

The difference between the old and new GTLE exam

Who qualifies to write the exam?
Under the old GTLE, writing the exam was permitted for candidates 1 year after completion of training.
The new GTLE has been integrated into the final-year examination of the teacher training institutions.
What is the exam centre?
With the old GTLE structure, candidates were not permitted to write in their college or institution of training.
With the new GTLE, all candidates are permitted to write in their colleges or institutions of training.
Practical Component
No practical or teaching practice component formed part of pedagogy scores under the old GTLE. The pedagogy questions were scored out of 100%.
With the new one, practical or teaching practice forms part of the pedagogy scores. The teaching practice takes 30% of the total scores, while the theoretical pedagogy paper takes 70% of the total scores.
TTAG reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with both the NTC and the Ministry of Education to ensure that the interests of all teacher trainees across the country are protected and promoted.
