WAEC Invites 1,431 of 2025 BECE Candidates for Mass Cheating Investigations

  • WAEC has released the 2025 BECE Cheating List after the completion of marking.
  • The list contains the details of all candidates suspected to have engaged in mass cheating.
  • The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has published the names of candidates whose results for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been withheld due to suspected mass collusion. This follows ongoing investigations into examination irregularities reported during the conduct of the exams.

According to WAEC, the affected candidates—drawn from various regions across the country—have been invited to appear at designated WAEC regional offices on specific dates to assist in concluding the investigation process. Failure to honour this invitation, the Council warns, will not prevent it from making final determinations on the cases.

The decision to withhold these results is part of WAEC’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the examination process and ensuring that certificates awarded reflect true academic achievement.

Candidates who fail to report to assist in the investigation may leave WAEC with no option other than to take a decision in the absence of the candidate.

WAEC’s final decisions are often the cancellation of the subject involved or the cancellation of all the results of affected BECE candidates.

Parents, schools, teachers, and stakeholders are to ensure that their candidates respond to the invitation.

Candidates must be present at the respective regional offices in the respective regions in which the candidate sat the examination for this all-important interrogation or investigation.

Once a candidate’s result is withheld by WAEC, he or she will not get a full result. Some may not get any result at all.

Both instances will lead to such candidates not being placed in any of the free public and private SHSs for the 2025/2026 academic year.

The dreams of students whose names have been captured on the list are on the line. Parents should start providing the needed emotional support for their wards as well as look forward to any likely outcome.

    Key Points from WAEC’s Announcement

    • Nature of Case: Alleged mass collusion.

    • Affected Candidates: Both school and private candidates.

    • Next Steps: Candidates must report in person to their assigned WAEC offices.

    • Consequences: Non-appearance will not halt WAEC’s decision-making.
