Mr. Kofi Asare Submits New PTA Guidelines To GES, MoE Announces Major ‘Give Back’ Alumni Fund

The Ministry of Education is set to redefine the role of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) across Ghana following the submission of new operational guidelines. The comprehensive framework was presented to the Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, by the PTA Committee, chaired by Mr. Kofi Asare.

This move follows a recent announcement by the President on the reintroduction of PTAs as key partners in the nation’s educational development.

The new guidelines aim to transform PTAs from being primarily focused on financial contributions to becoming more integral partners in school management and student welfare. A significant clarification within the framework establishes that PTAs are to be strictly school-based organizations.

This means a parent’s or guardian’s membership is directly tied to their ward’s enrollment and automatically concludes once the student leaves the institution.

This change is designed to ensure that the associations remain relevant and directly connected to the current student body.

Hon. Haruna Iddrisu commended the committee for its diligent work, reiterating the government’s view that revitalized PTAs are crucial to the success of Ghana’s education system.

In a related development, the Minister announced a major new initiative aimed at harnessing the support of former students. H.E. President John Mahama is scheduled to officially launch the Alumni Fund, dubbed “Give Back to Your Alma Mater,” on March 30, 2026.

This national fund is intended to provide a structured channel for alumni to support their former schools by addressing urgent needs and exigencies.

To foster public trust and ensure fiscal integrity, the fund’s management will be chaired by a Civil Society organization, guaranteeing transparency and accountability.

Finally, the Minister also took the opportunity to address the ongoing school placement exercise.

He assured the public that the process remains strictly merit-based and issued a stern caution against any individuals or groups attempting to illicitly manipulate the system, affirming that the integrity of the placement process will be upheld.
